Book Seabreeze Wedding (Summer Beach Book 5) Review :
I've now read all five of the Summer Beach books, and while I've enjoyed all of them, this one fell a little flat for me. The situations are still interesting and often fun (especially the scenes with the socialite and neighbor Darla), as is the dialogue, but the relationship between Ivy and Bennett didn't hold true to me (as it had in the previous books). I realize that this is a "sweet" or "clean" romance, and I'm not expecting or wanting explicit sex scenes, but two people in their 40s, both of whom suffered loss, would, from my own experience, want more intimacy and romance than is depicted here. Too many kisses on the cheek and forehead. Really? A romantic weekend getaway would have been great for these two. I also got frustrated with Ivy's back and forth re her feelings for Bennett. One minute she's counting the ways she loves him, and the next she's looking for red flags. I was satisfied with the conclusion, and really liked Carlotta's words of wisdom. I'm still a big fan of Jan Moran, and love that her heroines are older women (in this series and the Coral Cottage series) and have already pre-ordered Book 6 and Book 3 of the Coral Cottage series. Ivy and Shelly Bay are still learning a lot of things about the inn, and they are learning a lot about themselves too. They are both engaged, but the past sometimes causes doubts about the now.A series of events happen that sometimes makes them feel like they are on the right path and have made the right choices, but the same events can also show them why rush into things, take more time, and the brain gives them mixed messages. Sometimes, like most of us, they make life complicated.It is a time of discovering who they are now, deciding the direction of the inn, and their friends, family, and guest of the inn, coming together. This book continues the series so nicely, it answers some questions, but it also leaves us with an opening for another book in the series.
