The artwork in the graphic novel is interesting and would probably be considered on the cutting edge to someone more familiar with graphic illustrators than I am. So I was reading Archangel for the story and concepts. The plot involves another plausible outcome of the nuclear bomb drop on Nagasaki, and reminded me a lot of David Lynch's own take on this in the last series of Twin Peaks. But Lynch's take was much creepier and better than this one. So it kind of fell flat for me. The story seemed highly edited (probably for space) and so just came across as a quick and careless attempt. Disappointing, because I am a huge fan of William Gibson and I value everything he writes, usually reading his books twice because there is so much in them, it take two reads to appreciate the research and nuances. Not so here. It's a good story. It's a pretty standard mix of Gibson's usual character types (including the plucky heroine!) and it incorporates the "stub universe" concept he used in, "The Peripheral", but used in a different way.It's a short story, NOT a full blown novel, and if you read it expecting one you'll be disappointed. But if you take the story on it's own terms you'll have a good ride!
